What comes to mind when you think of summer? I think of my childhood, of riding bikes in the cool morning with Katie and Meghan to swim practice, and afternoons in the car where my skin felt tight from too much chlorine and sunshine. I think of the scent of the wisteria that grew beside the softball field where we practiced, and of sipping a tiny drop of honeysuckle juice from the flower. I remember nights going to bed while it was still light outside, and lucky evenings playing flashlight tag with neighbors and fireflies way past bedtime.
Summer is on it’s way. I’ve seen it in the trees, smelled it in the air, and I darn sure felt it in the Virginia humidity while I was down South. Signs of warmer weather are all around us. Here are photographs that shout summer to some folks, in quite a lovely voice, I must say. Surely these images speak of a more casual time, and a pace that we can only hope for.
